Fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing is our most intensive skin renewal treatment, and knowing what recovery looks like helps you plan with confidence. Most people experience redness, swelling and peeling while the skin heals over approximately 5–10 days.
Everyone heals differently. This is a general guide; your provider’s personal aftercare instructions always come first.
Before treatment: preparation
At Nordic Clinic, preparation starts at home with ALASTIN Skin Nectar and detailed instructions, so your skin is ready for treatment and recovery.
Days 1–2: warmth and swelling
Expect your skin to feel warm and tight, similar to a strong sunburn, with redness and swelling that is often most noticeable around the eyes. Follow your aftercare routine closely and rest.
Days 3–5: peeling begins
Your skin will start to flake and peel as treated skin renews. It may feel tight or itchy. Let it shed naturally rather than picking, and keep it moisturized as instructed.
Days 5–10: fresh new skin
Peeling finishes and fresh, pink new skin appears. Many people feel ready to return to most normal activities toward the end of this stage.
Weeks 2–4: settling in
Pinkness gradually fades. Your new skin is especially sensitive, so diligent sun protection is essential. At Nordic Clinic, a follow-up treatment approximately four weeks later supports your results.
Months 1–3 and beyond: collagen at work
Collagen continues to rebuild for months, so texture, tone and firmness keep improving well after the skin has healed.
Tips for a smoother recovery
- Follow your provider’s aftercare instructions exactly.
- Don’t pick or peel flaking skin.
- Avoid direct sun and use the sun protection your provider recommends.
- Plan important events and photos for after your skin has fully healed.
- Contact the clinic if anything concerns you during recovery.
